Foil Stamping

Werner Printing & Engraving offers a wide variety of options when it comes to foil embossing your design. Foil embossing and foil stamping are the processes by which a heated die is pressed into foil. This causes the foil to adhere to a variety of papers. Foil embossing or foil stamping your design can be combined with many other processes we offer here at Werner Printing such as engraving, digital printing, thermography, and die-cutting.

Products that commonly use foil embossing and foil stamping:

Business cards: Black stock accompanied by metallic, white or gold foil is by far our most popular request.
Wedding Invitation Suites: Save-The-Dates, Invitations, RSVPs, Reception Cards, Direction Cards, Accommodations Cards, Thank You cards, Menus, programs, & table cards
Envelopes: Personal stationery, commercial stationery, and custom sizes

Embossing, Debossing, and Blind Embossing; what is the difference?

Embossing uses a die in combination with foil to press a design into paper, which causes the image to scale above the paper. Debossing is when the image sinks into the paper. If foil is not used in combination with the die, this is considered blind embossing or blind debossing. Whether you are combining foil with the die, embossing or debossing is a remarkable way to make your design stand out.

Available types of foils with varied finishes and colors that we offer:
• Matte: This can be an option if you are looking for subtlety and legibility.
• Metallic Silver or Gold: Recommended if you desire something really eye-catching.
• Gloss: Recommended for logos such as those on pocket folders or brochures. This finish is best for anything not requiring a fine type or intricate detail.
• Clear: Offers a subtle yet classy look to your finished product; commonly requested on the back of business cards to leave an understated but lasting impression with your clients.

Binding and Shipping

Have a report or book that you need finishing and binding? Werner Printing has the capability to print, bind and ship your project. We have many binding and finishing options, as well as multiple guillotine cutters, scoring, folding, perforation and binding machines for your project. Once your project is completed, we have multiple shipping options to get it where it needs to be.

Finishing Options

Cutting

• We have multiple guillotine cutters to handle your cutting and trimming needs.
• Our machines are programmable and handle a high volume of orders per day.

Scoring, Folding & Perforation Machines

• For products on a heavier stock that require folding, scoring is highly recommended as it makes breakage along the seam less common, depending on your paper stock of choice and ink coverage.
• For products that need perforation, please note, all perforations must go across the entire sheet and we only do a maximum of two perforations per sheet.

Die-cutting

• A die is formed from your specific artwork or requests.
• This die is then used to cut that specific shape into the paper of your choice.
• Die-cutting makes any piece stand-out; from pocket folders to business cards, we can die-cut your project to your specifications.
• We can die-cut on sheets up to 10” x 13”.
Round-Cornering/Angle Cuts/Straight Cuts
• Add more detail to your business card or printed piece by adding, 1, 2, or 4 cuts to the corners with an angled cut.
• Give your project a more classic look with rounded corners.
• Adding cuts to your piece can make your project stand-out amongst the competition.

• Our digital press has saddle stitching options. Please discuss specifics with our sales staff.
Edge-Painting
• Werner Printing can paint the edge of your project (business cards, notecards or invitations) in any PMS color of your choice.
• We edge-paint using a gravity fed airbrush. We also have a compressor-fed airbrush for larger quantities.
• Edge-painting your project can make it more attractive to the eye which will in turn, result in longer possession by your clients or recipients.

Varnishing

• Similar to lamination but is a coating that is applied during the printing process; not after.
• Makes printed pieces last longer.
• Prevents ink from offsetting onto other sheets or onto skin.
• Used for printed items that contain solid color backgrounds.

• Film is applied to the printed item after the printing process.

Werner Printing Engraved Stationery and Printing

What is Engraved Stationery and Printing?

The process of engraved stationery and printing creates a raised image that can never be achieved with flat printing. How does Werner Printing achieve this? First, copper plates are etched with the desired image. Once the plates are created, they are locked on to the press. This ensures that the plates will not move while printing. The alignment needs to be perfect for the print to come out correctly. Next, the press operator applies ink to the die. The excess ink is then cleaned off the parts of the plates that do not need the color. This leaves only the image on the copper plate covered in ink. Each sheet of paper is inserted into the machine. The machine presses the ink onto the paper through intense pressure. The result is a beautifully colored, raised image on every sheet of paper creating a sense of depth, elegance, and luxury.

What to consider when using engraved stationery and printing:

Engraved stationery and printing has a high-quality finish. The process is often used for formal communications such as corporate brand identity stationery and correspondence. Engraved printing is a great process for wedding invitation suites as well due to the formal style.
For double-sided pieces, engraving can be done on two sheets of paper that are then glued to each other before they are trimmed. This does create a thicker piece but then both sides can have that elegant tactile finish without seeing an indentation on either side. This is not the most cost-effective method but is a great solution if this is the style you wish to achieve. If having a thicker piece is not your preference, Thermography is also available.

Products that are commonly engraved:

  • Business cards: Werner Printing can create your cards using engraving, foil stamping, thermography, and many other unique techniques to make sure your cards present a lasting impression.
  • Envelopes: Personal stationery, commercial stationery, and custom sizes: Showcase your brand’s identity on the first piece to a potential client. Your envelope’s appearance can ensure that your potential client opens your mail right away rather than toss it aside.
  • Certificates/Diplomas: Create a sense of lasting pride, exemplary achievement, loyal service or hard-earned success with a look and feel that conveys importance.
  • Wedding materials: These are important if you want to share all of the information about your special day. Custom invitations give you a chance to showcase your design and creativity.
  • Letterheads: Your firm letterhead is essential to your business identity as it sets the stage for everything else that follows. Our mix of printing techniques and paper can showcase your firm

During the Raised Printing or Thermography process, a special powder is added to the printed piece and is then heated. This gives the ink the raised look and feel. The process can be done with any PMS color. Thermography can be combined with many other processes, such as digital printing, foil-stamping, embossing/debossing, and die-cutting. Thermography is more cost-effective than engraving while still providing a tactile feel. We can do raised printing that is compatible with laser printing; this is a process called Permaraise. The process for this is different than Thermography.
